Early Life and Playing Career

Gareth Southgate was born on September 3, 1970, in Watford, England. He began his playing career at Crystal Palace before moving to Aston Villa in 1995. During his time at Villa, he won the League Cup and UEFA Super Cup. He later played for Middlesbrough, where he spent eight seasons and helped the club reach the 2006 UEFA Cup Final.

Managerial Career

After retiring from playing, Southgate began his managerial career with the England U-21 team in 2013. He led the team to the semi-finals of the 2015 European U-21 Championship. In November 2016, he was appointed as interim manager of the England senior team following the dismissal of Sam Allardyce. He was subsequently given the permanent role in 2017.

Under Southgate's management, England reached the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the final of UEFA Euro 2020. He has also led the team to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
